The tower houses the Yser Museum (Museum aan de IJzer) which belongs to the United Nations network of peace museums.

In 1956, burials from many smaller surrounding cemeteries were concentrated in Vladslo, and it now contains the remains of 25,644 soldiers.

Over 1,650 Belgian soldiers, the majority killed during the liberation battles of the last few months of the war, are laid to rest.
